BCSRT Strategic Plan

  • Strategic Plan

In early 2008 a retreat was held with the vision of providing a goal and strategic plan for the BCSRT present and future.  What came out of this retreat was an indentification of what the present priorities of the RT profession are in British Columbia and where the profession should be heading in the future.  The final result was the creation of the BCSRT Strategic Plan.  A dynamic document, it is added to when new priorities for the profession are identified, which means that as the profession evolves, so does our goals and strategies for meeting the future.

  • Position Statement on Degree Option

As many of the allied health professions have moved beyond the traditional entry level requirements, governments have concerns about something called credential creep.  The issue with credential creep is that can reduce access to health care services because health professionals spend more time in training.  Additionally, individuals who have training beyond that of the basic entry skills and competencies may choose not to work in areas that are short of health care workers.

The position statement on the degree option was created so as to communicate how the BCSRT views the degree option for RT’s in the province of British Columbia.

  • BCSRT Briefing Document-Barriers & Challenges to Providing Safe Patient Care

The BCSRT Briefing Document was developed in order to provide government and employer agencies with quick and accurate information about what challenges the RT profession in British Columbia faces now and in the future with regards to the safe provision of patient care services.

This document was sent along to key government agencies in November 2008 and was very favourably accepted.  To date, it continues to generate positive discussion between the BCSRT and the provincial government.

2010 Olympics and Paralympics….Call for Volunteers

The Vancouver Olympic Committee (VANOC 2010) is asking for volunteers for the Olympics and Paralympics in February and March 2010. Here is an excerpt from a memo sent by the CEO of Vancouver Coastal Health Authority:

“As the provider of health services in the communities staging Games events, Vancouver Coastal Health [VCH] is a key partner to the Vancouver Olympic Committee (VANOC). We will be required to provide comprehensive medical services for the athletes, spectators, workforce, media, and others up to and during the actual Games. This will include supplies and services (ranging from general medical and surgical care to pharmacy and diagnostic imaging), equipment and even staff. VCH expects that many of our physicians, nurses and allied health professionals will fill most of the roles VANOC needs to support the 2010 Games both in official and volunteer capacities. VANOC is expected to begin its formal volunteer recruitment process in early-2008 via its website (www.vancouver2010.com).

VANOC 2010 will be seeking volunteers to help run both the Olympics and Paralympics in dozens of functions ranging from Accreditation to Venue Operations - including Medical Services.”
